Create attributes while building variants
Add a missing attribute or option without leaving the variant builder using + New attribute and + Add value.
When you're building variants and the attribute or value you need doesn't exist yet, create it inline. There's no need to stop and open the Attributes page.
How do I add an attribute on the fly?
- On a product's variants tab, open the variant builder.
- To add a brand-new attribute, click + New attribute, enter a Name (and optional Code) in the dialog, then click Save. It joins the list immediately.
- After choosing an attribute, click + Add value to create a missing option. Type the Value, set a color code if you want, and save.
- The new attribute or value is selectable right away, so you can keep building.
Will this create duplicates?
No. Inline creation reuses an existing attribute or value when the name matches, so you won't accidentally duplicate one. Anything you add here also shows up on the main Attributes list afterwards.
Tip. Leave the Code blank in the inline dialog and the app derives it from the name, same as on the full Attributes page.
Common questions
Where do attributes I create here end up?
On the main Product Attributes list, exactly as if you'd created them there. Inline creation is a shortcut, not a separate store.
What if the attribute name already exists?
The builder reuses the existing attribute or option instead of making a duplicate, so it's safe to type a name you're not sure about.
