Connect Avalara for tax

Connect Avalara AvaTax with your Account ID and License Key, then enable tax calculation to apply sales tax on US and Canadian orders.

Avalara AvaTax calculates sales tax automatically for US and Canadian orders, so you don't maintain rate tables yourself. It connects with credentials from your Avalara account, with no authorise round-trip.

How do I connect Avalara?

  1. From Sales Channels → All Channels, click Connect on Avalara.
  2. Choose your Environment: Sandbox for testing, Production for live tax.
  3. Enter your Account ID (the numeric ID at the top of your Avalara admin) and your License Key (generate it in Avalara under Settings → License and API keys). The key is encrypted once saved.
  4. Add an optional connection name, then click Connect.

How do I turn on tax calculation?

  1. On the Avalara connection's settings page, open Tax calculation settings.
  2. Enable tax calculation, confirm your company settings, then save.

Common questions

Where do I get my Avalara Account ID and License Key?

The Account ID is the numeric ID at the top of your Avalara admin. Generate the License Key under Settings → License and API keys. The key is encrypted once you save the connection.

Should I start in Sandbox or Production?

Start in Sandbox to test. It calculates up to 1,000 transactions a day. Switch to Production credentials when you're ready to apply tax to live orders.
