Create a bill of materials (BOM)

On the BOM tab, list the raw materials and sub-assemblies an assembled product is built from.

A bill of materials defines what goes into an assembled product. Use it when you manufacture an item from components rather than buying it finished.

The BOM tab with component rows

How do I create a BOM?

  1. Open the product and click the BOM tab.
  2. Click Add Component, search for the material or sub-assembly SKU and select it.
  3. Enter the Qty per parent and a UOM (e.g. ea, kg, L).
  4. Optionally set a Scrap % and Effective or Obsolete dates.
  5. Repeat for every component the product needs.

How do I actually build it?

The BOM is the recipe. To produce the finished item and consume the components, use the Build / Work Order workflow under Warehouse → Builds.

Tip. Adding the first row converts a simple product into a BOM. A BOM and a bundle differ: a bundle ships its components, a BOM is assembled into a new stocked item.
