Generate variants with the matrix builder

On the Variants & Inventory tab, click Generate Variants and use the three-step builder to create a matrix of SKUs in one go.

To create many variants at once, click Generate Variants on the Variants & Inventory tab. The three-step builder turns a couple of attributes into a whole grid of SKUs, so you don't add each combination by hand.

How do I generate a grid of variants?

  1. On the Variants & Inventory tab, click Generate Variants.
  2. Step 1, Options: add your attributes (e.g. Color, Size) and pick the values for each. Optionally set a SKU prefix and SKU strategy.
  3. Step 2, Preview: review the combinations, tick the ones to create, and use the base price, cost and weight fields to bulk-fill the grid.
  4. Step 3, Confirm: check the count of new SKUs, then click Generate.

Tip. Existing SKUs are locked and won't be overwritten, and you can use + New attribute or + Add value on the fly if something's missing.

Common questions

Will generating variants overwrite the ones I already have?

No. Existing SKUs are locked during generation and stay as they are. The builder only creates the new combinations you tick.

Can I add one variant instead of a whole grid?

Yes. Use Add Single Variant next to the Generate Variants button to add a single SKU on its own.

Is there a limit on how many variants a product can have?

Yes, the builder enforces a maximum number of combinations per product. The preview step shows the count before you generate, so you can trim values if you hit the cap.
