Inventory: common questions

Quick answers to the things people ask most about stock counts, locations, adjustments, transfers and imports.

Most inventory surprises trace back to the difference between physical, reserved and sellable stock, or to how an import was applied. These are the questions we hear most. For step-by-step guides, see the articles above.

Tip. When a number looks wrong, start with the Location filter. Most "missing stock" is really stock sitting at another site.

Common questions

Why is Available lower than On Hand?

Some stock is allocated to open orders. Available is On Hand minus Allocated, so the gap is what's already promised to buyers. It's by design.

Why does a SKU show up twice?

It's stocked in more than one location. Each SKU-and-location pair is its own row, with its own on-hand, allocated and reorder point.

An item isn't flagged low even at a few units. Why?

It has no reorder point yet. SKUs without one are never flagged, even at zero. Set a reorder point through Bulk Import to enable flagging.

My bulk import overshot the counts. What went wrong?

You likely used Adjust mode (values added as deltas) when you meant Set (values as targets). Re-upload in the correct mode.

The Transfers page won't let me proceed. Why?

A transfer needs two active warehouses and a different source and destination. A single-site tenant should use an adjustment instead.

Average cost looks off. Can I fix it?

It's recalculated from recorded movements and can't be typed in. Reconcile your counts, then re-check the figure.
